Overview
Beta / Release
During this period, there is very little information on the world at large.
The earliest mentions of Falatacot, Dericost, Haebrous, or Yalaini:
Felscuda, the scholar living on the Folthid Estate, mentions the word Falatacot, which she says has something to do with Dericost. She goes on to explain that Alatar Locke thinks Dericost was once a powerful, evil Empyrean kingdon.<ref name="FelscudaDialog">1999/11 Release - Dagger of Tikola Quest: Felscuda dialog</ref>
The translators, which either existed at release or were added during December 1999's Sudden Season event, also mention the Empyrean cultures in their opening dialog. Fanzen describes the Falatacot as an Empyrean culture that lived in the ruins found in the swamps and desert.<ref name="FanzenSanOpeningDialog">1999/11 Release - Fanzen San the Translator dialog</ref> Kuyiza says she is a scholar of the Millennium War and will translate text of Dericost, Haebrous, or early Yalain.<ref name="KuyizaBintZayiOpeningDialog">1999/11 Release - Kuyiza bint Zayi the Translator dialog</ref>
Unbeknownst to players at the time, the developers did have a crude world map which showed the general size and shape of the other landmasses, and what Empyrean culture occupied them:
This map was not publicly known until 2016, as part of a Q&A session with Stormwaltz. He described it as being from the old Empyrea history documents, and he noted that, while he was on the team, there was no mention of the Falatacot existing on the Haebrean continent, and rather the Falatacot were always thought of as an Empyrean culture unique to Dereth (Killiakta).<ref name=StormwaltzQ&AQuestion8">2016/10 Stormwaltz 2016 Q&A: Question 8</ref>
